Digital license plates are coming to Colorado

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Digital license plates will start being sold in Colorado, according to 9News.

A tech company called Reviver will start selling them after a new state law goes into effect in August of 2022.

The new bill, "Motor Vehicle Digital Number Plates", will allow digital license plates to replace traditional metal ones as long as the registration number and expiration are visible from 100 feet away in the sunlight.

Governor Polis signed the bill to allow digital plates in April. According to 9News, Reviver announced this week that they complied with Colorado's requirements to start selling.

The big perk of this is that registration will go digital too. When your car's registration expires, pay online and your license plate is good for the next year.

The company already sells digital plates in California, Michigan, Arizona, and Texas for commercial fleet vehicles.

Ten other states are working on adopting this technology.
