The celebration ahead of Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals in Denver

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Avalanche are competing for the first time in 14 years for the Stanley Cup in Denver.

Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ball Arena. The Avs are taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ahead of the game, KRDO's Josh Helmuth spoke with fans to answer this question: How much would you pay to watch the Avalanche play at Ball Arena in the Stanley Cup Final?

The average price per ticket for Game 1 Wednesday night is over $1,000. Ahead of Game One, many shared how much they would pay to see the team clinch the Stanley Cup at a home Game 7, which would possibly be played on June 28.

Answers ranged from $1,000 to, hopefully joking, $1,000,000.

One fan said he would be willing to spend his entire month’s rent to watch the Avs win their first Stanley Cup in 21 years.

Jerry Johnson drove from Nebraska to watch Game 1 in person.

“It means the world to me,” he said. “It costs a lot of money but it’s on my bucket list. Always has been. Thrilled to be here. Goosebumps.”

Blair MacKenzie brought his wife and son, Peyton, all the way from Nova Scotia to watch Game 1 and Game 2 from inside Ball Arena.

“We decided two years ago, three years ago I guess, I promised him if they make the cup finals, we’re going,” he said. “Our motto has always been ‘you only live once,” he laughed.

For people who weren't able to snag a ticket, there's a free watch party in downtown Denver in the Auraria Campus.

The Auraria Campus watch parties are for all home and away Stanley Cup 2022 playoff games. People can enjoy a free viewing of the games on the Tivoli Quad along with food and beverages for purchase.

Game One of the Stanley Cup Final is airing Wednesday on KRDO NewsChannel 13 at 6 p.m.

Game Two from Ball Arena happens Saturday with a puck drop set for 6 p.m.
