Pueblo County Commissioners vote against proposed solar park

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Thursday morning during a county commissioners' meeting officials shot down a proposed solar farm in Pueblo County.

Officials said they believed the solar farm, which would've been known as the Pronghorn Solar Park, would reduce home property value.

If approved, it would've been built along Lime Road near the existing Xcel Energy power plant.

Citizens against the project say they feel like the commisoners listened to their concerns.

“I was so happy to hear the commisoners and they listeneed to us…they heard what they said in all the meetings we atttended in the last year plus.I’m so happy they supoort the people fo Pueblo," said Ronda Pighetti.

However, not everyone is happy with the commissioner's decision. According to officials with the project, the solar farm would've brought more than 400 jobs initially and more than $700,00 in tax revenue annually.

"Pronghorn would have hired local labors and operators to do the job from colorado but now these other companies that are coming in they’re all coming from out of state," said Greg Bravard."

There is a project currently being built north of the Pueblo Airport, along the road that leads to the Transportation Technology Center, but many laborers' near the park are saying they're getting workers from out of state.
