Two fires burning at Lake Minnequa Park and Open Space contained

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews spent much of Thursday afternoon battling two wildland fires burning at Lake Minnequa Park and Open Space.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the Pueblo Fire Department said the two fires were contained and burned 20 acres.

The fire burned north of Pueblo Blvd. and east of Lakeshore Ave. At 3:44 p.m., officials said multiple city, rural, and Pueblo West crews responded.

At 5:30 p.m., officials confirmed there were two fires burning in the area. The fire department believes the fires started at the same origin point but split along the lake.

At 3:57 p.m., the Pueblo Police Department announced there are pre-evacuation orders in place for the Lake Minnequa neighborhood.

Just before 4:55 p.m., a helicopter from Fremont County arrived to assist with the fire. According to city officials, people in the area might see ash in the air.

This is a developing story. People are asked to avoid the area.
