MeadowGrass Music Festival returns to Black Forest for 13th year

BLACK FOREST, Colo. (KRDO)-- Friday kicks off the 13th annual MeadowGrass Music Festival.

The festival showcases more than 20 bands that are national, regional, and local. There's everything from camping, a beer festival, food, and activities for the kids.

"It’s a tradition now. A lot of folks know that this is what they do. Their kids get out of school and boom it's time for Meadowgrass, so we want to create a safe friendly space for people to come together with their friends and family and support our artists, our musicians, and our vendors," said Nicole Nicoletta with Rocky Mountain Highway and the event organizer.

One of the featured bands is the Red Mountain Boys. They've been playing together for three years. They all live in the Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs areas. This will be their first time playing at the MeadowGrass Music Festival.

"It means a lot to be here, and this is the summer kick-off for a lot of folks in the area. It’s a special weekend for us to be here," said Jeff Daugherty with the Red Mountain Boys.

It will also be the first time festival goers will hear Craig Walters. He's been a fixture in the Colorado Springs music scene since 1973. Walters says he's looking forward to the festival.

"Out here it’s really focused on the music and people are in a festive mood," said Walters.

Gates open at 10 am each day. Kids ages 12 and under get in free. For ticket and concert information you can visit their website.
