COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs School District 11 continues its search for a new Superintendent. Tuesday, the Board of Directors held 90-minute interviews at the Tesla Professional Development Building auditorium with each of their final three candidates for the position.

Tuesday's candidates all have plans of action, and all three say they've turned districts around and they can do it again.

Peter Hilts, the current chief education officer with Falcon School District 49, says success is about focusing on individual students.

"The beginning of achievement is differentiating and personalizing learning," Hilts said.

Dr. Tammy Clementi, a former Chief Academic Officer for Aurora and Pueblo public schools says the answer is with the educators they hire.

"The most distinguished and master teachers across the state of Colorado," Clementi said.

Dr. Michael Gaal, the former Deputy Chancellor for public schools in Washington DC says D11 already has the answer within the district, they need a common initiative.

“What it needs is a systems-level leader," Gaal said. "It’s not a new program. It’s a system.”

D11 hopes to announce the final candidate by the beginning of next month.
