Crews battling wildfire near Perins Peak State Wildlife Area

DURANGO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews are fighting a wildfire burning near the Perins Peak State Wildlife area.

According to Durango Fire Rescue, the fire is burning in the Perins Peak area behind the Rockridge subdivision up C.R. 204.

As of 5:47 p.m., the fire has reached three acres and is growing.

Officials say the fire is burning heavy timber and oak brush. The fire is visible from all over Durango.

We are monitoring a fire near the Perins Peak State Wildlife Area and neighboring BLM land. These properties are already under seasonal closures through July 31. Avoid the area to allow crews to operate.

Air resources have been ordered and are at the scene battling flames.
