The Pine Creek girls soccer team has a fantastic shot at winning a state title
Pine Creek is ridiculously good. Not only did they finish the regular season with a fourteen and one record, they only allowed eight goals all year. They knew early on how good they'd be, “Starting in our indoor season, we creamed every single team. I could just tell it was going to be a great season,” says Pine Creek midfielder, Ava Amsden.
The secret to their dominance, a pre-game chant perhaps, “I think it just really helps is get pumped up. It’s kind of like a big warning, I guess, to other teams. I don’t think we could go without that chance. I think it’s like a superstition now,” says Amsden.
Pine Creek head coach John Frederick grew up in Mexico City and brought the Mexican chant with him, “When we all say it together as a team, it brings us closer. Also the fact that we don’t know what it actually means. I think it’s Spanish," says Pine Creek forward, Monica Yoder.
