Paving season kicks off for 2022 in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- Colorado Springs city officials say many big road projects are in the works for 2022.

These and other road projects have been largely possible thanks to the 2C program, which dedicates 0.57% in sales tax to improvements. The program was first instituted in 2015 and renewed in 2019. Since then, more than 1,200 lane miles have already been repaved under 2C, and by the end of the 2022 paving season, the city hopes to get that total to more than 1,400 miles.

"Some of the more notable streets we're going to be hitting, on the arterial side we're going to be at Kelly Johnson which is a really difficult road for us to get done being adjacent to Academy," said Corey Farkas, Public Works Operations & Maintenance Division Manager. "But we've got a great crew working out there right now getting that ready for paving. We're also going to be touching on Austin Bluffs this year."

Residential areas will also be a major focus this paving season, but will only be about 50% of the project's goal. The rest of the project will focus on repairing collector roadways as well as curb and gutter work.
