Nominate a Colorado educator for Teacher Appreciation Week

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Education says Teacher Appreciation Week is the perfect time to recognize how much educators do every day.

The department says this week is meant to show how much teachers' dedication, creativity, and problem-solving skills are appreciated.

“Teachers are some of our best role models for the adaptability and resilience they show, especially during these last few years. We are so grateful to our Colorado teachers’ for persevering during these challenging times and for their dedication to helping students grow into strong, smart citizens,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes in a press release. "Help us celebrate and show extra appreciation for our teachers this week by recognizing a teacher who made a difference in your life or showing appreciation for your child’s teacher."

To show appreciation, several Colorado companies are offering deals to educators throughout the week. Even some companies are offering deals year-round.

The Colorado Department of Education compiled a list of deals and discounted tickets for educators in the state. Educators can receive a collection of deals that include sports events, food, classroom supplies, health and wellness services, and more.

Families can express their gratitude for an educator by posting and sharing on social media and using the hashtag #ThankATeacherCO.

Parents can help their children create and share messages to give to their teachers. The Colorado Department of Education provided a free template for families to download to view resources for appreciation ideas.

The CDE says another way to honor an exceptional educator is by nominating them for the 2023 Colorado Teacher of the Year.

Nomination forms are available here.

After submitting the nomination, a teacher will be asked to fill out the 2023 Teacher of the Year application. Educators can fill out the form by Wednesday, June 29.
