Colorado Springs Police investigate fatal April 4 accident on N. Union Ave.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 76-year-old woman is dead following a multi-vehicle crash that happened earlier in the month.
On April 4, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of N. Union Ave. at 12:38 p.m. for a three-vehicle crash. At the scene, officers found one of the drivers was suffering from life-threatening injuries. After being treated at the scene, that driver was taken to a hospital.
According to police, a preliminary investigation shows a northbound vehicle had crossed over the center lane of traffic and then hit a southbound vehicle head-on. That's when a third vehicle, which was also traveling southbound, rear-ended the first southbound vehicle.
On April 15, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team was notified that the driver who crossed over the center lane, 76-year-old Sharon Jackson, had died at the hospital.
According to police, this was the 9th fatal crash in Colorado Springs so far in 2022. This time last year, CSPD's Major Crash Team investigated 13 fatal accidents this time in 2021.
Police say speed or alcohol is not considered factors in the crash, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
