Fire near Fountain Creek possibly started by lightning

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- A wildland fire that broke out on the east side of the Fountain Creek early Thursday morning is now 100% contained.

According to the Fountain Police Department, crews from multiple departments responded to a reported fire near Fountain Creek, south of Duckwood Park at 3:45 a.m.

At the scene, crews discovered heavy smoke and visible flames. With the fire being one mile west of Highway 85, it was difficult for crews to access the scene.

By 10:30 a.m., crews managed to completely contain the fire. According to police, the fire burned less than an acre. No structures were threatened and no injuries from the fire were reported.

Police say fire crews will still monitor the area for several hours Thursday before they clear the scene.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, police say it was possibly caused by a lightning strike from the late afternoon storm Fountain received Wednesday.

According to police, crews from the Fountain Fire Department, Stratmoor Hills Fire Department, Fort Carson Fire Department, and Hanover Fire Department responded to the wildland fire.
