Remains of man missing since February found in Phantom Canyon area

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- In mid-April, authorities found the remains of a man who went missing in February.

According to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, BLM Rangers were conducting raptor counts in the Phantom Canyon area on April 19 when they found human remains.

On April 20, Fremont County Search and Rescue, Fremont County deputies, and the Fremont County Coroner's Office conducted recovery operations in the area of mile marker 10 on County Road 67.

After conducting an autopsy Tuesday, authorities identified the remains as those of Bobby Stringer.

According to the sheriff's office, Stringer went missing on February 21 in the Phantom Canyon area. Custer County Search and Rescue teams conducted extensive searches trying to find him, including deploying K9 teams and Drone teams.

Additionally, fixed-wing and rotary aircraft were utilized in the search from several different jurisdictions and organizations.

Fremont Search and Rescue said, "our sincere condolences go out to Bobby's family and friends."

No word on the official cause of death.
