Family of couple involved in Pueblo fatal wreck Saturday speaks out against drunk-driving
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The mother of Marisha Medina and mother-in-law to Greg Medina, the innocent couple who were involved in a crash Saturday morning in Pueblo on the 4th Street Bridge is pleading with the public to stop getting behind the wheel when intoxicated.
Emma Alire's whole life changed when she got a call at 3 a.m. Saturday from local authorities who said her daughter and son-in-law had been in a bad wreck.
At that point, Alire said she didn't know much upon arriving at the scene, just that allegedly the driver responsible for the crash was intoxicated behind the wheel.
The Medina couple were both transported to a local hospital. Their condition at that time was uncertain due to the severe injuries they sustained from the wreck.
Alire said if it had not been for a witness helping her daughter out of the car and applying a tourniquet to her leg, she could have lost it altogether.
As for her son-in-law Greg, present-day his condition is up in the air. Sunday he had to be life-flighted to a Denver hospital for further treatment. But Alire says that as of Monday, doctors decided to hold off on surgery due to complications.
KRDO previously reported on the circumstances of the crash Sunday as well as a community held a vigil for one of the two teen victims who died in the crash.
