Wildfire breaks out in Woodland Park near Mills Ranch Road

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews responded Thursday afternoon to a fire burning just north of Woodland Park near Mills Ranch Road.

As of 8:30 p.m., the Teller County Sheriff's Office reports the size of the fire at 7 acres, only slightly higher than the 3-5 acre estimate in the early afternoon, and it was believed to be 10 percent contained.

All evacuations were also lifted around that same time for the area around Mills Ranch Road, Sour Dough Road, and Lovell Gulch Road.

According to the sheriff's office, the fire was first reported by someone who saw smoke around 2:30 p.m.

Ten agencies have responded to the fire and eight homes have been evacuated. No structures have been lost. There is a shelter and the county's emergency animal response team on stand-by.

At 3:10 p.m., the sheriff's office issued a mandatory evacuation for the area North of Mills Ranch Road, 1 mile East of Sour Dough Road, and 1 mile past Lovell Gulch Road.

The TCSO says residents should evacuate now and only call 9-1-1 if they're in immediate danger.

At 3:38 p.m., the sheriff's office issued a pre-evacuation notice to the area of Triple B Ranch Rd. and Red Rocks. Residents are asked to make preparations and be ready to evacuate if needed.

According to the Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Department, their crews are sending a water tender to Teller County.
