Stolen vehicle rolls into police department cruiser Thursday morning

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- Just before 4 A.M. on Thursday, the Colorado Springs Police Department says they responded to Ace Pawn Loan on Platte Avenue regarding a theft from a vehicle.
When officers arrived in the area, they located the blue spray-painted van near the pawn shop. CSPD says officers initiated a traffic stop by activating their lights and turning on their siren.
The van continued eastbound on Platte Avenue for about a block when it reached the intersection with Platte Place.
CSPD says at that point, it appeared as if the vehicle became disabled and began to slowly roll backwards. Once the van hit the cruiser behind it, the vehicle came to rest.
Officers observed two people inside the van, a man and a woman. The man was told multiple times to keep his hands up and "stop reaching around." Police later located a gun where the man was reaching.
CSPD says the van was reported stolen on December 27, 2021. Both the driver and passenger were arrested on unrelated warrants and the investigation is ongoing.
