School bus involved in crash in Fountain

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- A school bus in Fountain was involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon.

Students from the Widefield School District who were on their way home captured a video of the ordeal.

The bus driver who’s identity has not been released as of Wednesday night crashed into another vehicle, causing damage to it and the homeowners property that it collided into.

“He was already kinda speeding and I was holding my stuff and the seating within just a few minutes before the first stop he goes to turn without hitting the breaks but then the crash happened," Emily Hawkins, a student who was on the bus said. "Everyone on the bus was freaking out and the entire time and the driver didn’t say a word.”

In moments after the bus crashed into another vehicle, the driver then left the scene. Dropping the children off in an unknown location.

“The entire bus just gets off the bus not one person stayed on," Hawkins said. "So after that everyone was freaked out trying to take pictures and figuring out how to get home.”

Hawkins said she had to walk two miles to get home and if she hadn’t alerted her guardians - they would have never known she was involved in an accident until hours later.

“We lost my 18 year old daughter, to a hit and run so when she called me and said they were just in an accident and someone was hurt then he took off and wouldn’t let them out of the bus it really hit home,” Kathy Hall, Hawkin's grandmother said.

The bus driver eventually returned to the scene - where paramedics arrived to transport to injured person in the vehicle the bus collided with to a nearby hospital.

A short time later, the bus driver was escorted into the back of a police vehicle.

As for emily and the other students?

“I’m okay but still kinda shaken up… I just hope everyone is okay.”
