Anticipation ramps up for Small Business Saturday in Colorado Springs area

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO) - Get your wallet warmed up now for Small Business Saturday, just a week away. The Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center and the Better Business Bureau are teaming up to make it worth your while to shop local. 

Mountain Chalet is one of the small businesses that they paid a visit to this year. Sales haven't been much of an issue at Mountain Chalet in the past year due to more outdoor activity during the pandemic, but there have been several issues with the supply chain making it more challenging to keep certain items stocked. 

Despite the many hardships small businesses faced this year, the Pikes Peak Region Small Business Development Center and the Better Business Bureau are encouraging you to shop small and local this holiday season because for every dollar spent at a locally owned business, 70 cents go back to our local economy.

Jonathan Liebert, CEO of the Better Business Bureau, says this year they are visiting businesses that are also making an impact in the community.

"We are also highlighting social impact businesses, so companies that have a higher purpose beyond just profit making, they are all small they are all local, but at the same time they are just doing good things in our community, they are very impactful, they provide value," said Liebert.

According to the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center, small businesses make up 99.5 percent of the total number of businesses across the Pikes Peak Region and in Colorado.
