Fatal crash shuts down Drennan and Marksheffel
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- One person has died from a car crash southeast of Colorado Springs airport Wednesday morning.
At 6:57 a.m., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a reported car crash at the intersection of Drennan Rd. and Marksheffel Rd.
Following an investigation, police determined a Toyota Prius was stopped at the westbound stop sign on Drennan Rd. about to make a left turn onto Marksheffel Rd. When the Prius began turning it was hit by a northbound Ford pickup truck.
According to police, the driver of the Prius died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was unharmed.
Both directions of Marksheffel and Space Center at Marksheffel were closed while crews worked at the scene. Police asked drivers to avoid the area.
This is a developing story. This is the 42nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs so far in 2021. This time last year there were 40 fatalities in the city.
