Tattered Cover coming to downtown Colorado Springs 2022
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO)-- Good news for book lovers, an iconic bookstore is coming to downtown Colorado Springs early next year. On 112 N. Tejon stands a building that is more than a century old, but it will soon be home to the historic 'Tattered Cover' bookstore.
The Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs hopes this will be a magnet for Colorado Springs residents and tourists.
"Tattered cover is one of the most iconic, independent bookstores," expressed CEO & co-owner of Tattered Cover Bookstores, Kwame Spearman.
It's one of the largest independent bookstores in the country and now it's being established in Colorado Springs.
"There's a vibrancy and excitement in Downtown Colorado Springs that is undeniable, and every time I've been down there to visit, to shop, to eat it just screams that it is looking for a Tattered Cover establishment," expressed Spearman.
The store is expected to open in 2022 with a varied selection of books from best-selling and independently published authors, a café, and a kids zone.
Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs believes this move can help revive retail in the downtown area.
"We really want to grow and retain our retailers downtown, we know it is challenging to run small businesses like these - a business like Tattered Cover serves as an anchor that attracts people to downtown, and then when they are downtown they are going to explore other businesses so this helps the viability of other businesses downtown," said Susan Edmondson, President & CEO of Downtown Partnership.
This building that will be housing the bookstore in 2022 was constructed in the late 1880s and has been home to businesses like Zeezo's Costume and Magic Shop and Bryan & Scott Jewelers.
The 8,400 sq ft bookstore is expected to open between February 15 and March 15, 2022.
