MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) — Heidi Ganahl announced she’s in the running for Colorado Governor.

Ganahl made the announcement Tuesday morning in her hometown of Monument outside of Rosie’s diner.

“I’m a mom, an entrepreneur, small business owner, and I’m just heartbroken of what's happening in our state,” said Ganahl.

Ganahl currently serves on the University of Colorado Board of Regents and is the only Republican who currently holds a statewide elected office in Colorado. Before that, Ganahl founded Camp Bow Wow, one of the largest pet care franchises in the world.

She says she’ll work to help kids, decrease violent crime and homelessness, and address the rising cost of living in our state.

“Day one, I’ll get to work. I’ll start with addressing the skyrocketing suicide rate among our children, I’ll work to keep schools open and teach them the basics and offer school options for families that need it, next I’ll roll up my sleeves and get to the root cause of homelessness and fix it not finance it,” said Ganahl.

There are currently 11 candidates registered to run in the 2022 gubernatorial election. Ganhal is one of nine Republicans running so far.

“I look forward to speaking about the Republican Party's principles and why, you know, we believe we have the best solutions to take Coloradans back to the way it used to be [and] fix a lot of the problems that we have," Ganahl said. "But really, I’m running as a Coloradan. I grew up in Monument, I’ve lived here most of my life and I love our state. I just can’t stand to see what’s happening to it, so I want to get to work.”

Ganahl’s campaign tour started on Friday and will end in Greeley today. The entire tour includes 30 counties and will end on Monday.
