One person dead after officer-involved shooting in Peyton
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Peyton that resulted in a death.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office received reports that someone was having a mental health crisis. Around 2:30 p.m., deputies contacted an armed adult man in the area of Gollihar Road and Gollihar Court near Peyton.
A shelter-in-place alert went out to residents at 7:05 p.m. Residents were asked to secure their homes and stay away from windows and doors.
EPSO's Behavioral Health Connect Unit responded to the scene, along with multiple deputies from ESPO's Patrol Divison, Tactical Support Unit, and K9. Deputies found the individual in an open field near Gollihar Court. He later moved into a wooded ridgeline overlooking deputies.
According to CSPD, numerous attempts to deescalate the situation were made over several hours. At one point, the individual shot at deputies at least one time.
During the incident, three deputies fired their weapons at least once. Police say medical personnel immediately rendered aid, however, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed the situation was resolved at 8:40 p.m. Residents were told the area was safe and that there was no current threat to the community.

As per protocol, the deputies involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave. The Colorado Springs Police Department took over the investigation in accordance with Colorado law.
Tuesday, September 7, the El Paso County Coroner's Office completed the autopsy of the individual and identified him as 26-year-old Connor Riley McDaniel.
No other community members or deputies were injured in the incident.
