Rocky Mountain State Games back to full capacity in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (KRDO) -- Colorado's largest multi-sports festival, The Rocky Mountain State Games, has returned to Colorado Springs for the next two weekends.

The games started Friday, and this year, they're celebrating 20 years. The games include sports for all ages and abilities.

Pickleball started early Friday morning and is one of the more than 25 sports that people can participate in. There are new events this year like drone soccer, Taekwondo, and Judo.

Last year because of COVID-19, not all the games were played, so they're excited to get back to full capacity.

"Not a lot of the games happened last year due to a lot of restrictions in terms of venue and how many people you can have in one area," said Morgan Sharples, the event coordinator for Colorado Springs Sports Corporation. "We’re super excited and it’s something we wanted to bring back. Pretty much once those restrictions changed we started planning the Rocky Mountain State Games like we knew it."

Sign up for this weekend is closed, but you have until Wednesday to sign up for the following weekend. You can head over to their website and take a look at the events. Some qualifying sports are played in between these two weekends.
