Woman who died after hitting an elk on I-25 had an address in Colorado Springs

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The victim in a multi-vehicle car accident involving an elk was identified as a Minnesota woman with an address in Colorado Springs.

According to the Douglas County Coroner's Office, 18-year-old Kendra Durnan died June 7 after being hit by a car and thrown over a guardrail.

Colorado State Patrol said she was traveling southbound on I-25 near Happy Canyon road with a 21-year-old man when they hit an elk.

They got out of their vehicle and a 21-year-old Good Samaritan, also from Colorado Springs, stopped to assist the pair. That's when a Toyota 4Runner hit the elk lying in the middle of the road, losing control and crashing into them standing on the side of the road. All three individuals were thrown over the guardrail, Durnan did not survive.

In total, nine people were injured.
