Hacked construction sign in Denver says “abolish cops” and “burn it down”

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Someone hacked a digital construction sign to relay political messages in the RiNo district in Denver.

The hacker or hackers programed the sign to say "abolish cops," "support trans kids," and "burn it down."

While the sign had no obscenities, the message did make drivers do a double-take.

"I was wondering why it was on what I thought was a DOT sign honestly. Obviously, I support anyone's ability to get out or make their opinions heard but I was surprised to see it on public equipment," said Eli Kunich, a Denver resident.

The City of Denver acknowledged that construction signs are easy to change for anyone with a little bit of knowledge on how to work them.

Officials say it happens most often when road crew members forget to lock up control panels.
