New Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center set to open June 24th

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- After nearly three years of construction, the new Pikes Peak Visitors Center is about to open.

The City announced Wednesday the Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center is set to open on June 24, pending weather and final construction activity.

The summit itself is expected to reopen to drivers on June 15, however, the altitude has made constructing the visitor center an uphill battle.

The new building will open in phases, so early visitors can expect to see final construction work taking place. Exterior site work is expected to last through September.

There will also be limited parking through the end of July, construction could extend this timeline.

Visitors will be treated to fresh donuts and brand new menu and retail options starting opening day.
