Colorado State Patrol investigating serious motorcycle crash along Highway 160

RIO GRANDE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash involving a two-vehicle SUV and a motorcycle.

According to CSP, the incident happened along Highway 160 at milepost 184 on June 6. A maroon 2000 Ford Expedition with two child passengers was driving westbound on Highway 160 in lane 1. A Maroon Harley Davidson motorcycle was also traveling westbound on Highway 160 in lane 2.

At 11:25 a.m., the Ford changed lanes, colliding with the motorcycle. The motorcycle rolled onto its left side, skidding off the right side of the road for 40 feet before coming to rest. The Ford came to a controlled stop 32 feet off the right side of the road.

The motorcyclist was ejected during the crash.

According to CSP, the motorcyclist was identified as Michael Salbacka, 64, from Shafer, Minnesota. He was taken to a nearby hospital for serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Tyler Chiquito, 23, from Monte Vista.

The crash is still under investigation.
