Crews respond to house fire in Southwest Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Multiple fire crews responded to a house fire in Southwest Colorado Springs.

The fire happening on Skyway Boulevard and Vega Drive. Lieutenant Fred Varnell of the Colorado Springs Fire Department says no one was home at the time of the fire except for the homeowner's pets but the animals were not injured.

Investigators are now working to determine how the fire started. They said it began on the backside of the home, then made its way to the attic damaging the home to the point where it is uninhabitable. The homeowners were out of town, but Lt. Varnell says family members live nearby were watching the home. The pets are now in their care.
