PPCC gears up for virtual graduation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pikes Peak Community College graduation this year will be its most unusual and creative yet, with both a drive-in grad walk on May 15 at the Centennial Campus and a virtual ceremony starting at 10 a.m. on May 29th. More than 1,000 students will be graduating.
Those wanting to stay safely at home can attend the Virtual Commencement Ceremony. It will include every aspect of a traditional ceremony, such as speeches from the college's executive and system leadership, video submissions from students and faculty, a keynote address, and more. All of these are aspects the college could not include in the Drive-in Grad Walk. Nearly 800 students plan to attend virtually.
This year's keynote speaker is Reginald McKnight, a teacher, short story writer, novelist and PPCC alum. McNight has received many literary awards and has been a professor of English in prestigious universities around the country.
McKnight was born in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany, to an Air Force family and earned degrees from Pikes Peak Community College (A.A.), Colorado College (B.A.), and the University of Denver (M.A.). He is Phi Beta Kappa and received an honorary doctorate from Colorado College. McKnight has called Athens, Georgia, home since 2002, where he is a Hamilton Holmes Professor at the University of Georgia and lives with his wife, writer Sabrina Orah Mark, and their two sons.
