The Air Academy girls lacrosse team is having fun and winning games
The Air Academy girls lacrosse team is young. Their roster is mostly freshman. Most of the upper classman, are playing their first year on varsity because of injuries and the pandemic. You might think they're not very good, but you'd be wrong. The Kadets are undefeated through six games, "They're all taller than us! They don't act like freshman. They're all so chill, and so cool. We all just love them. They are awesome. These girls are all great, and they have so much potential. We just love each other so much. That's what's been carrying us," says Air Academy middie, Justine Anderson.
The secret is simple, they have fun, "I think part of it is that we're so close in age. There's not a lot of seniors, and there's not a lot of juniors. We're all just kind of together," says Air Academy defenseman, Maddie Fontana. Maggie Schipfer says, "I look forward to practice every day. It's been the best months of my life, especially since COVID."
Reagan Nohrenberg adds, "It's so fun! The environment is so happy and exciting. You're there in the moment, and you're like: this is where I belong."
The cool thing is, because of how young they are, they're gonna be a problem for other teams for a while, "We have an extra long. It's made it so much more worth it, and so much sweeter now that we actually are finally here. It's taking off and we're doing so well," says Anderson. "It's kind of exciting. That means we're going to have these people next season, and we're just going to get that much better," says Nohrenberg.
