Transitioning back to a maskless society brings some people anxiety

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people don’t have to wear a mask in most settings if they're vaccinated and many businesses no longer require them indoors. But as we transition back to a maskless society, people are feeling anxiety with the changes.

“This is a real thing. The lack of mask in public, it causes anxiety," said Dr. Max Wachtel, a forensic psychologist based out of Aurora.

We’ve become accustomed to a lot of strange things throughout the pandemic, like working from home and talking to people over Zoom. We've grown so used to wearing masks that it will take time to mentally transition back to normal. The Governor, State Health Department and CDC all say you don’t have to wear a mask anymore in most places, but changing the mindset could take a bit of time.

Dr. Wachtel says that some of those small habits are going to be hard to break, just because we’ve been doing it for so long. So at first, it might be really uncomfortable.

"Mentally it’s going to be tough to turn that switch off. We’ve been very careful, very socially responsible for a very long time,” Dr. Wachtel said.

He also said that it’s going to be really tempting to shame people, either because they are wearing a mask or because they aren’t and that’s something that we’ve got to stop.

  1. If anyone has anxiety over being in public without everyone wearing a face-diaper then they SHOULD STAY THE HELL AT HOME AND HIDE IN THEIR BASEMENT!

    1. Yes and don’t inflict the tender, fragile selves on the sterner, stronger fortitude-imbued people. If/When China or Russia invade the weakened US, they won’t hesitate to eliminate the gentle, poorly conditioned at the same time they do the politicians, if they can’t or won’t perform the tasks set them.

  2. Haven’t worn a mask this entire time and never been tempted to shame anyone. Who exactly is he talking about?

  3. Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response. It occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers. This psychological connection develops over the course of the days, weeks, months, or even years of captivity or abuse.

    1. Well documented, presented! Socialists have been scrape, scraping at the foundations of the US for a long time and escalated back in the 1960’s, ramped-up further still the last 10-15 years, with the goal of destroying The Rights & Freedoms intended for Humanity, codified in the establishment of these US of A!

  4. Maskless anxiety? How did these people function in society before the pandemic? It is just an excuse to be a weirdo or yell at people because you yourself is very ignorant.
