Colorado Springs Police Department holds memorial service for fallen officers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department remembered some of its own Friday by hosting a memorial service for fallen officers.

Spouses and officers say it was a special day after missing out on last year's memorial because of COVID-19.

Mayor John Suthers was at the event and brought attention to how tough the past year has been for police officers.

Rachael Flick, the wife of fallen Officer Micah Flick, says Friday was a big help for mourning her loss.

"I love survivor families. The Swaseys are here, the Jensen's are here today. there is a way you understand each other that other people don't have that connection to it. So to share each other's tears, to hug each other, to laugh, to share inside jokes only they understand, helps move the healing process forward."

Mayor Suthers also paid respect to the more than 260 American police officers who died in the line of duty during the last year.
