COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Six lives ended abruptly early Sunday morning when a gunman stormed a birthday party in Colorado Springs and opened fire. Thursday, the tight-knit community where the tragedy occurred is welcoming the public to honor the victims' lives with a candlelight vigil.

Melvin Perez, 30, Mayra Ibarra de Perez, 33, Joana Cruz, 52, Jose Gutierrez, 21, Sandra Ibarra-Perez, 28, and Jose Ibarra, 26, will all be remembered and celebrated during the vigil started at 6 p.m.

Police say the six family members were killed by a gunman who was in a relationship with one of the victims. Investigators believe he attacked the birthday party because he wasn't invited to it and had been in a previous conflict with the family a week prior. The gunman fatally shot himself at the scene.

The vigil is open to the public at the entrance of the Canterbury Mobile Home Park, which is near 3020 S. Powers Boulevard.
