Soldier from Colorado Springs joins U.S. Shooting Team
FORT BENNING, Ga. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs native will be representing the U.S. Shooting Team in the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
1st Lt. Amber English is an instructor and shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
According to the U.S. Army, English joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 2017 with special assignment to the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. English is attached to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Georgia to train with other elite marksmen in uniform.
After making her way through the competitive circuit, English became a full-time athlete at the Olympic Training Center in 2012 and in 2016 she joined Team USA as an alternate in the Skeet Trials for the Summer Olympic Games Rio.
In March 2020, English completed the second and final part of the Skeet Olympic Trials, earning a spot on Team USA.
Alternates for the Skeet Event are Sam Simonton and six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode. In February 2020, KRDO's Brynn Carman spoke with Simonton and Rhode.
