Part of US 36 closed following fuel spill, unknown amount of fuel entered Saint Vrain Creek

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A portion of US 36 will be closed over the next several days overnight after a truck spill on Tuesday.

CDOT says a tanker truck hauling 8,000 gallons of gasoline crashed on Tuesday near Lyons.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, roughly 500 to 1,000 gallons of gasoline spilled into the environment. Additionally, an unknown amount of fuel entered the Saint Vrain Creek near mm 18 along US 36. Already there's been reports of a significant fish kill three to four miles downstream.

CDOT says US 36 is closed at Apple Valley Road. Personal vehicles can get around the closure using Apple Valley Road, but commercial vehicles will need to take CO 7 or US 34.
