Colorado Springs police identify victim in deadly shooting at Whitney Young Manor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police department is investigating a homicide that happened Sunday.

At 3:16 a.m., a call came in about a shooting in the 2100 block of Delta Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

Some neighbors told KRDO crews they think there needs to be more security measures to prevent crime in the area.

"I don't think it's safe here," said Robert Shepherd. "I'm worried about the kids more lately. I think we need to bring in the security teams and make it more safer for our community."

On Monday, the El Paso County Coroner's Office complete the autopsy and identified the victim as Quatrel Weeden, 34, of Colorado Springs.

The Coroner's Office is working on determining the official cause and manner of death. At this time, his death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to CSPD, Weeden's death is the ninth homicide investigation in Colorado Springs in 2021. At this time in 2020, CSPD had investigated 18 homicides.
