Volunteers recruited to be COVID-19 vaccinators

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- One year ago Friday, the thought of a COVID-19 vaccine was almost non-existent. Now, El Paso County health officials have administered more than 100 hundred thousand doses.
El Paso County plans on continuing to vaccinate residents by working with The Medical Reserve Corps of El Paso County to recruit COVID-19 vaccinators. However, vaccinators must have certain qualifications.
Health officials say vaccinators must be a skilled and trained professional in order to administer the vaccine. For instance, one must be or have the skills that attribute to healthcare professionals including, nurses, pharmacy technicians, registered pharmacist and medical assistants just to name a few.
According to Mike Ware, with El Paso County Medical Society, volunteers have put in over 13,000 volunteer hours just in the last 12 months in response to the covid-19 pandemic. That has an economic value of over $850,000 that we give to our community.
