Colorado Springs plow crews gear up for potential snow

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The early morning snowfall could be a hit or miss, but city plow crews are prepared for the worst.

A November snow is nothing new for Colorado Springs. But this year, the fall-time snowfalls have been few and far between. This surprises Jack Ladley, Operations Manager for the City of Colorado Springs Public Works Department.

"My experience has been [around] Halloween we get snow, and then about every week thereafter," Ladley told us. "And here we are going on Thanksgiving, and it's really only our third possible plowable snow event of the year, which is a little unusual."

Ladley hopes the lack of snow so far this season won't hinder people on the roads tomorrow.

"Normally by about this time of the year we see drivers start to develop those wonder driving skills, and I don't think that's happened this year, simply because it's been so dry," he told KRDO.

Ladley is reminding people to be extra careful, and give yourself a few more minutes to get places.

"And understand: ice and snow, take it slow," he said. "Also understand that those plow drivers have their hands full. It's a big piece of equipment. Assume that they don't see you and give them plenty of space."

If Colorado Springs sees any snow overnight, it'll come around 2:00 a.m. Plow crews are expected to be ready around 1:30.

Snow patrols will be out around the city throughout the night monitoring where snow falls, so they can put the plows into action if need be.
