All D20 secondary schools move to remote learning
El Paso County's largest school district announced late Friday evening that all middle schools and high schools would transition to remote learning through the end of the semester.
According to a news release, Academy District 20 administrators have not yet made a decision about our elementary schools.
In the included letter from superintendent Tom Gregory, he noted that 3,463 students and 823 staff are in quarantine or isolation, no less than 15 D20 schools are unable to provide in-person learning due to these quarantines, and some schools are serving a second or third transition to eLearning.
Gregory noted that this decision is "not because our schools are a significant source of transmission," but rather because "the high rate of positive cases in our community results in large-scale quarantines and isolations which then impacts our ability to staff schools."
The transition is effective Monday, November 16.
A decision about elementary schools will come no later than 4pm on Monday.
