Douglas County rescinds notice to withdraw from Tri-County Health Department

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Officials in Douglas County announced Tuesday that they are rescinding their notice to withdraw from the Tri-County Health Department.

On July 10, several county commissioners released a statement saying they wanted Douglas County to opt-out of a mask mandate ordered by TCHD. The commissioners also sent a notice of their intent to withdraw from the health department.

But after several talks between both groups, the Douglas County commissioners seemed to have found an amicable resolution with TCHD.

County Attorney Lance Ingalls wrote in a letter thanking the health department for its "mutual resolution" efforts.

"As a result of those efforts, the TCHD Board of Health recently adopted a policy that will increase the role of individual counties regarding public health orders, as they are being developed and before they are issued," Ingalls wrote.

The letter states that Douglas County is rescinding its intent to withdraw and will remain in the three-county district until at least December 31, 2022.

KRDO has reached out to TCHD and will update this article as more information is released.
