Two injured in Teller County house fire
DIVIDE, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two people are recovering in the hospital after their home in Divide caught fire Monday afternoon.
The Teller County Sheriff's Office says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Lieutenant Wes Walter says they received a call at 2:27 p.m. regarding a structure fire in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood. When crews arrived at the scene, Walter says the home on Will Scarlet Drive was fully engulfed in flames.
Two people inside the home suffered burn injuries. One of the victims is said to have serious burns due to the degree of the burn and also the amount of their body that was burned.
Deputies said two unidentified people rescued one of the victims from the home. KRDO is still waiting for identification on who they are.
As for the below-freezing temperatures, Walter says it was both a gift and a curse for firefighters.
"I think it probably makes it more difficult for firefighters, however, with our current conditions the snow probably decreased the possibility of spread," Walter said.
