Colorado wildfire destroys at least 26 homes

Boulder County CalWood Fire
City of Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. -- At least 26 homes were destroyed by a wind-whipped wildfire in north-central Colorado that has scorched nearly 14 square miles and forced thousands of residents to flee.

The Daily Camera reports the CalWood Fire started around noon Saturday about 17 miles northwest of downtown Boulder.

Wind gusts of nearly 60 mph fanned the flames Saturday afternoon, but there was relatively little growth Sunday.

More than 1,600 homes and nearly 3,000 people were under evacuation orders Saturday, and many of those orders remained in effect Monday. Investigators expect to find more burned homes as they assess the area.
