FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Cameron Peak Fire grew rapidly Wednesday, becoming Colorado's largest wildfire burning more than 158,000 acres.

Governor Jared Polis made the announcement in a Facebook post, saying the wildfire surpassed the previous records held by the Pine Gulch and Hayman fires.

"All Colorado and the world cheer on our brave firefighters in their efforts to protect population centers and contain the fire," Polis said.
