Widefield high school will be represented at the state cross country meet

(KRDO) - Widefield cross country runners Asher Finch and Sophia Mena almost didn't get a chance to qualify for the state cross country meet, "Why did this happen to me?," asked Finch. "Definitely disappointing to be quarantined in the last couple weeks of the season," says Mena. Asher and Sophia were in quarantine for two weeks due to multiple cases of coronavirus at Widefield high school. Asher got out of quarantine two days before the state qualifying meet, while Sophia's first day out of quarantine was the day of the state qualifier, "I got a little bit lucky in that the dates kinda of lined up," says Mena, Finch added, "It was such a relief that two weeks was right before and I still had an opportunity. I was like oh thank goodness."

What they have taken away for their quarantined experience is that they sure like running with their teammates, instead by themselves, "It was good to be around my teammates again just to see everybody, and to kinda feel normal," says Mena. "I just told myself, hey this is the situation let's just get through it and let's do something special when we get back," says Finch.
