Man dies after crash on Academy Blvd and Pace Drive

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man passed away from his injuries Monday after a serious motorcycle crash in Colorado Springs.

Just before 9 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a traffic incident at the intersection of South Academy Boulevard and Pace Drive. When police arrived, they found a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries after being ejected. He was transported to a hospital immediately for treatment.

Detectives say 52-year-old Bobby Thompson was traveling northbound on Academy Blvd on his red Indian motorcycle. As he passed through the intersection on a green light, a red Nissan Altima attempted a left turn from southbound Academy Blvd onto eastbound Pace Drive. The Nissan struck the motorcycle, causing Thompson to be ejected.

Thompson passed away from his injuries on Monday. Police say excessive speeds and impairment are not considered factors in this crash. No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, according to detectives.

This is the 34th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time in 2019, there were also 34 fatalities.
