Colorado Springs Police investigate shooting at area hotel

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating a shooting at a hotel that left a man seriously injured.

Officers were called to the Travelodge on Ore Mill Rd. in the Old Colorado City area just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A short time later a man matching the description of the suspect was seen getting into a pickup truck then driving away. Officers initiated a traffic stop for Daniel Schwenk, 23. At one point investigators say Schwenk backed into an unmarked police cruiser before he got the truck stuck near 21st St. and Lower Gold Camp Rd. He was arrested without incident.

Schwenk faces charges of first-degree assault and is currently in the El Paso County Jail. At this time the victim's name has not yet been released.
