FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) — Two people and their dog are safe after spending four hours stranded in the middle of rising water.

The Fountain Fire Department and the Colorado Springs Fire Heavy Rescue Team rescued the two people and their pet around 8:00 Saturday night.

Fire officials say the people got stuck on a sandbar in the middle of a river at the Fountain Creek Nature Center. Others passing by saw them and called first responders.

Rescue swimmers waded through waist-deep water to bring the people and dog back to shore. The rescued people reported being cold, but were in good shape otherwise, according to Fountain Fire Chief James Maxon.

A few hours earlier, the Colorado Springs Fire Heavy Rescue Team saved two children who got stuck in the middle of rushing water in Colorado Springs.

Chief Maxon warns people to be careful around moving water when there are rainstorms in the area, because the water level can rise quickly.
