COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department says a bicyclist passed away Wednesday after sustaining severe injuries in a crash on August 13.

62-year-old Dennis Thompson passed away almost two weeks after he crashed against a Chevrolet sedan in Colorado Springs.

Just before 6 p.m. on August 13, officers responded to a crash involving a bicyclist and car at the intersection of North Nevada Avenue and Mount View Lane.

Detectives say the sedan was traveling northbound on a green light when it struck Thompson, who was crossing eastbound and did not have the right of way. First responders took Thompson to a hospital with severe injuries. He passed away Wednesday as a result.

Police say excessive speed and impairment were not factors in the fatal accident. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the Chevrolet sedan who was not injured in the crash.

Thompson is the 28th fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time in 2019, there were 30 fatalities.
