COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two deck contractors at the center of a months-long KRDO investigation have been arrested on felony theft charges.

Kevin McGee and Ken Peterson, who were contractors for Decks R Us, are accused of swindling a dozen southern Colorado families out of at least $250,000.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office said on Monday the current charges stem from two families who filed police reports against McGee and Peterson.

McGee was arrested on August 19 and Peterson was arrested Monday morning.

“With the assistance of KRDO’s investigation and obviously Colorado Springs Police Department two arrests warrants have been issued,” 4th Judicial District Senior Deputy District Attorney Andrew Vaughan said.

Vaughan told KRDO he is aware there are more potential victims but his office cannot prosecute on any additional charges unless a victim files a police report.

"If you believe you're a victim, if you want to be included, or you want to pursue any type of criminal complaint, you do need to reach out to your local law enforcement agency," Vaughan said.

KRDO started its investigation into the pair in July 2019, when five families reported $164,000 in losses after hiring Decks R Us to construct a new deck.

In October 2019, the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department revoked their license following multiple complaints and code violations. The pair tried to get their license back but were denied by the building department in November 2019.

McGee and Peterson both face a maximum punishment of up to 9 years in prison, if convicted.
