Hundreds of motorcyclists to honor veterans on Cripple Creek Rally Ride

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- While the Veterans Rally in Cripple Creek has been canceled due to COVID-19, the 33rd Annual POW/MIA Recognition Ride will proceed to honor our veterans.

Hundreds of motorcyclists plan to meet in Woodland Park on Saturday morning and then ride to Cripple Creek along the POW/MIA Memorial Highway.

According the organization's website, the procession started in 1987, when a crew at High Country Custom Cycles rounded up some friends, veterans and local bikers to journey along the Memorial Highway with flags attached to their motorcycles. Each year, the event gained traction by going from a few dozen motorcycles to several hundreds, and ultimately led to the creation of the American Veterans Rally.

Each year the ride attracts more than 1,500 motorcyclists from across the United States, as the bike journey from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek. Now, motorcyclists will celebrate its 33rd year.
